A month and a bit late I've finally uploaded a nice scan! (Sorry - quite big to get more detail) This is a part of the epic Old English poem Beowulf. (Beowulf fighting Grendel) I've tried to sort of get the general look of the original manuscript. (Though more burnt and stuff becuase I like doing that - fun! ) It's not an exact copy - I've included completed words in some places where the original is missing etc..
Extra detail in scraps

Thanks! I wanted to use a quill and ink. I don't think I had any feathers at the time and so used pen and ink. (Hehe an excuse to do another piece! ) Again, thank you very much - I really appreciate it!
Is this really Old English? Or Anglo-Saxon? Just, if it is, I never imagind it would be so different when compared with what I'm typing. And even then when we did Old Welsh (from around the same time, or even before this period) my name is still spelled exactly the same, and I could stil understand the basic gist of the entire thing.

Yeah it's Old English/Anglo-Saxon. Its been through quite a lot to get to Modern English! I found it cool how it
reminded me of German, even though I don't speak German when I listened to it I could recognise (phonetic?) similarities to the German spoken today. What you mention about Old Welsh is interesting, I'm kind of just guessing but perhaps the Welsh language itself wasn't influenced as much by other languages (brought about by invaders and such?) So it developed own its own more so than English? Wow, that got me rolling! Thanks again for the comment - greatly appreciated!
Nah, Welsh and English have jointly influenced one another, and naturally both have been influenced by Norman and Latin too I think, then of course there was also Jute in hte beginning. And Roman way back.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
