Some drawings that I worked on more than I was going to. The mysterious and terrible Balrogs, Maiar corrupted by Melkor. Just trying to illustrate as much as I can my vision on how Balrogs might look (or at least some of the time maybe ). I would illustrate more 'shadowness' but it was hard with this style I didn't want to totally ruin it. XD Just trying to get a feel for what I think. Would have given them whips of flame but this was meant to be quick(ish) ideas may do fuller Balrog stuff later.
Thank you, yeah the film ones don't really fit the "like a great shadow, in the middle of which was a dark form, of man-shape maybe, yet greater" for me. I mean perhaps they could have shape shifted into a more monstrous form, but I like them more humanoid and sinister.
I know what you mean. I saw the films before I read The Silmarillion, so I they still have that kind of demonic look in my mind. But yeah, I imagine them more humanoid too.

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
